Hattie B’s Eyes Early 2022 Arrival in Deep Ellum With Pre-Opening Events Next Month

Between Detroit-style pizza and hot Nashville chicken, we couldn’t decide which would dominate 2020’s food trends. Well, maybe we have the answer: even more hot chicken is coming to Dallas.

Last year we knew that a certain joint in Nashville had its sights set on Dallas and was planning to arrive in 2021. Now we have the latest on Hattie B’s Hot Chicken, which is set to open its first Texas location in late February or early March.

If you’ve walked around Deep Ellum in the past year, you’ll have noticed the completely gutted space on 3000 Main Street just across from the AllGood Cafe. There, the 5,800-square-foot room (original brick walls still intact) will eventually accommodate 200 guests indoors and outdoors, and where Hattie B’s famous crispy and juicy roast chicken will thrive.

When it opens you will find a menu of platters (jumbo tender or wings, served “hot” or “not”), sandwiches whose chicken can be turned up “without heat” or up to “SHUT THE CLUCK” HIGH !! ! “The plates come in a number of combinations of bird parts (dark or white meat, legs, thighs or breast – you decide) plus two side dishes, such as allspice mac and cheese or black-eye pea salad.

The dessert list is short and sweet: seasonal fruit cobbler, banana pudding, root beer or cola float or ice cream. Expect a couple of local and native beers and a casual restaurant.

In 2022, this will be Hattie B’s ninth outpost and only the fourth location outside of its home state of Tennessee. Founding and father-son duo Nick Bishop and Nick Bishop Jr. made their debut with the Original Hattie B’s in 2012 and have been expanding outside of the state since 2016.

It’s not the only imported chicken that has brought roasted birds to Dallas recently. Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken (not to be confused with Nashville Hot Style), another Tennessee export, opened in Deep Ellum in September 2020.

Though Hattie B’s won’t open until early next year, Hot Chicken isn’t waiting for a big opening. The restaurant will post its food truck, a 1974 Airstream, across Dallas from November 5-7 for a weekend of spicy pop-ups.
