HELEN ROGERS Obituary (2021) – Murchison, TX

Helen Audyne Ware Rogers peacefully entered heaven on Saturday, November 6th, 2021. She was born on October 19, 1919 in Murchison, Texas, to parents Roy Ware and Minnie Moore Ware. Helen attended high school in Athens, Tx. and graduated from St. Paul’s Nursing School in Dallas, where she graduated as a Registered Nurse. During this time she met a handsome medical student, Albert Rogers, and they were married in 1940. They were married for 69 years before she died in 2009. Helen attributed her longevity to a healthy lifestyle long before it was fashionable. She ate sparingly, exercised daily, and practiced tai chi and yoga until she was in her 90s.

She learned all her life, always reading, taking courses in Spanish, religion, philosophy and the arts, and attending retreats, seminars and workshops. Meanwhile, she was raising six children. She studied art with many well-known artists in San Antonio throughout her life and participated in local art exhibitions where she received recognition. Helen enjoyed her memberships in the McNay Art Museum, the San Antonio Art League, the San Antonio Watercolor Group, the Coppini Academy and the Southwest School of Art. She used to paint daily in her own studio and often brought models to pose and artists to paint with. She was a prolific painter and instead of selling her work, she shared her fine art with her children, grandchildren and friends. She was delighted that her paintings adorned her homes and created a beautiful legacy for her family. A devout Catholic, Helen was a member of St. Peter Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church, St. Monica’s Guild, and the Bexar County Medical Alliance. Helen also loved traveling with her husband and making memories of trips around the world, including trips to the coast with children and grandchildren.

Helen leaves her children to Dr. Albert Rogers Jr., Christina O’Neill Chitwood (Bill), Dulci Rao (Frank), Dr. Randall Rogers (Gay), Mary McDonnell (Henry), Anne Routon (Allen), twelve grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

Helen preceded her parents, sister Gladys Dowell, the Erskine brothers, Denson, Vernon brothers, husband Albert M. Rogers, MD, and daughter-in-law Susan Rogers in death.

Helen was a creative, loving and devoted wife, wonderful mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by everyone.

A private funeral (for families only) will be held in Holy Cross Cemetery prior to the Memorial. Commemorative donations can be made to The Village at Incarnate Word, 4707 Broadway, 78209, or a charity of your choice.
