A shimmering music tree brings additional joy to the vacation in the arboretum, presented by Reliant. The 15 meter high tree is animated with over 42,000 lights and plays cheerful Christmas carols every half hour. The Dallas Arboretum Holiday Festival opens on November 10th and runs through December 31st. The Christmas village, DeGolyer House with the artistry of the birth of Christ. and The 12 Christmas Days are also attractions.

“The holidays just got bigger and brighter with a great new feature – the 50-foot Dazzling Music Tree – that is sure to delight the young and the young at heart,” said Jim Ryan, chairman of the Dallas Arboretum board. “We invite locals to visit the Dallas Arboretum this Christmas season and to delight their out-of-town guests with special thanks to our presenting sponsor Reliant.”

The holiday at the Arboretum begins on November 9th with official tree lighting for members only from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., led by the Marilyn family and Ben Weber. The holiday at the Arboretum is open to the public during the daytime on November 10, while the nights continue throughout the season with the return and further expansion of the Christmas village. The garden has extended its evening hours until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays

“The holidays are our favorite time of year and we want to share the joy of the season with the North Texas community by being a part of the beautiful Christmas display at the Dallas Arboretum,” said Andrea Russell, vice president, Reliant. “We love to help brighten up the holidays at Reliant, and I encourage everyone to plan a visit to the arboretum to soak up a little Christmas cheer with family and friends.”

The Christmas village

Inspired by European Christmas markets or Christkindlmarkt, the Christmas village consists of charming shops and facades that represent a picturesque European hamlet. The Christmas Village is wonderful during the day, but it’s magical at night with trees lit, shopkeepers handing out samples, and live entertainment. Each home is individually designed for the Dallas Arboretum, with the Christmas Village as an attraction for everyone. Santa even has his own house and a sleigh for photo opportunities! Santa is at his house on select evenings in November, and after Thanksgiving he’s present every evening and Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

The Marilyn and Ben Weber family’s Christmas pyramid, a 23-foot tall structure built in Germany, is decorated on all levels with hand-carved elements, lighting, and character movements. The Weber pyramid is the perfect addition to the Christmas village and, in addition to an Edelweiss house with food and drinks, a larger beer garden and performance area, is the distinguishing mark on Pyramidenplatz.

The art of the crib

Every day and every Monday-Wednesday evening from November 10th, the community is invited to visit the historic DeGolyer house. Renowned designer Michael Hamilton lavishly decorated the house with the return of The Artistry of the Nativity. This collection includes hundreds of day nurseries representing a variety of cultures from around the world. In addition to the Ray Harrington and Joe Christian collections, which the arboretum owns, there are also nurseries by Tommy Bourgeois and Peter Hall. These objects are beautifully crafted from many materials including cork, glass, horns, seeds, corn husks, porcelain, silver, wood, and more.

After a visit to the Christmas Village, visitors are invited to stroll through the garden and continue to enjoy the 7-foot Victorian-style pavilions that depict each of the 12 days of Christmas with some updated characters. The pavilions come to life at night from November 9th, except on Thanksgiving Day (closed) and December 24th (closes at 5 p.m.).
December 25th (closed) and New Year’s Eve (closes at 5pm). These glass pavilions resemble an oversized music box with mannequins and animals that move with music and light.
