We like a lot of things at Hurtado, and these Brisket Huevos Rancheros are high on the list.

We just released a long list of openings and closings a couple of weeks ago, but there are already some notable steps in progress.

First, Hurtado Barbecue in Arlington expands to Little Elm. It seems like owner Brandon Hurtado made his first barbecue pop-up at Division Brewing just yesterday; that was actually 2018. The next year he got a food trailer, and in 2020 he opened a brick factory with a long line of people in front of the door. As if that weren’t enough to keep him busy, Hurtado is soon opening a bar, Hayters, near his restaurant in downtown Arlington (the name refers to the original founder of Arlington, not people who don’t like barbecues ).

Hurtado now smokes more than 4,000 pounds of breast, turkey, quail, and other proteins every week. A passed out brunch was a more recent addition to his menu (see photo above) and just this week they posted a stunning photo of Hatch Chili Grits. (Just when we think that all the good hatch chili ideas have been adopted, we were wrong. Thank you, Hurtado.)

They will hire 40 to 50 people for this new location in Little Elm. So if you feel like smoking and barking, follow their social media pages. They are expecting this new baby in Little Elm early next year.

In other opening news this week, The Adolphus is reviving the Rodeo Bar, a place that first opened in 1981 and was an ode to the original “cowboy” Walt Garrison, a Dallas Cowboys full-back who got a horse trailer as part of his signing bonus. Garrison spent some time on the pro-rodeo track during the off-season and then retired from football after injuring his knee while wrestling.

The newly renovated bar will still have the Texan boast of the 1980s. The menu cleverly picks up on a food trend and offers smash burgers and blue plate specials with brisket, pork chops and sausages.

The Rodeo Bar is located at 1321 Commerce St. and is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.

Finally, we learned from the Fort Worth Business Press (FWBP) that three-time James Beard Award finalist Regino Rojas has flown the Cowtown Coop. Just two months after opening Sundance Square in the former Taco Diner, Rojas closed its Revolver Taco outpost there. FWBP reported that Rojas said in an email that there just weren’t enough shops in the city center.

Rojas recently expanded the Exchange Hall in the AT&T Discovery District and also has the La Resistencia and Revolver Tacos tasting room in Deep Ellum.
