Hyatt Introduces Room Keys in Apple Wallet
Hyatt Hotels Corp. has introduced room keys in Apple Wallet for World of Hyatt loyalty members at six US hotels, with plans to eventually roll out the technology across Hyatt’s global portfolio, the company announced on Wednesday.
Members staying at one of the participating hotels can tap their iPhone or Apple Watch to unlock guest rooms and key card-protected common areas such as gyms, pools and elevators. They can add their room keys after making a reservation through the World of Hyatt app. Once added, the room key will be updated to let the guest know when it is time to check-in, and after check-in is complete and a room has been assigned, Hyatt will activate the key.
If a guest needs to change rooms, extend their stay, or request a late check-out, the hotel can remotely update the room key in Apple Wallet. Guests can also use the World of Hyatt app to check out, which deactivates the key.
The six hotels currently offering keys in Apple Wallet are Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort, Hyatt Centric Key West Resort & Spa, Hyatt House Chicago / West Loop-Fulton Market, Hyatt House Dallas / Richardson, Hyatt Place Fremont / Silicon Valley and Hyatt Regency Long Beach.
