‘If you misgender me, that’s okay’: Demi Lovato talks about their transition
Since sharing with the world they call Genger Non-Binary, Demi Lovato has been pleasantly surprised at how much effort people went to addressing them with their new pronouns, “she / she”. The 28-year-old recently announced that she was incredibly happy with her family and friends tried to use the new pronouns.
According to a People report, the singer opened up during an interview with Audacy and said it took her “a year and a half of exploration” to get to that point in her life. “I’ve noticed – especially my older sister Dallas – I’ve noticed she uses ‘she’ and ‘she’ and it really warms my heart that people are trying,” they were quoted as saying.
They added, “My friends actually had a harder time getting used to it. Just because I think your friends are the ones you’re more like “B * tch!” So I say, look, you can still call me ‘B * tch’. “
And now, in a recent post on social media, they wrote that it was okay to let them “get confused” especially since the transition was fairly new.
“If you’re looking at me the wrong way, that’s okay. Sometimes I mistake myself for it! Changing the pronouns I’ve used to refer to myself all my life is a big transition. And sometimes it’s hard to remember! As long as you keep trying to respect my truth and as long as I remember my truth, change will come by itself. “
Lovato also wrote in the caption that they “felt the need to post this because [they] often find that changing pronouns is confusing for some and difficult to remember for others ”.
“It’s all about your intent. It is important to me that you try, but if you make a mistake it’s okay remember that I love you and keep going ️💗 ”
They shared the post during International Non-Binary Awareness Week, which takes place in July.
The Heart Attack singer appeared non-binary during an episode of her new podcast 4D with Demi Lovato earlier this year. They used to have accused the patriarchy for putting them in a box and preventing them from accepting their authentic selves.
