Italian restaurant to open in ex-Flora St Cafe in Dallas Arts District

The day is getting a little closer for tall Italians in Downtown Dallas: La Stella Cucina Verace will open in the Dallas Arts District with Italian chef Luigi Iannuario and Maitre d ‘Riccardo Ravaglia to bring regional Italian cuisine, lifestyle and culture to Texas, which is no easy task.

According to an announcement, the restaurant will open “this winter”, sometime after December 21, but before March 20, 2022.

They open at 150 2330 Flora Street, in a space also known as the former Flora Street Cafe. Her original plan was to reopen in the Da Mario room, hence the name “La Stella”, which translates as “the star”.

But the negotiations were too long and they were able to take the place on Flora Street; Flora Street closed in January 2020.

The press release states that La Stella will bring a classic, honest, and simple approach to Italian cuisine, replicating regional Italian dishes like never before in Dallas, a bold quest.

Iannuario was born and raised in Italy and graduated in culinary arts in Milan while working for renowned chefs such as Gualtiero Marchesi at L’Albereta, a three-star Michelin restaurant in the Franciacorta region. He has worked in kitchens all over Italy and Europe, including for Giorgio Armani as Executive Sous Chef at the Emporio Armani Caffe in Milan and was most recently Executive Chef at Da Mario at The Star in Frisco.

Managing Partner Riccardo Ravaglia has more than 22 years of experience with various Cipriani facilities in New York and around the world, such as the Rainbow Room and Harry Cipriani on 5th Avenue. He also worked at Da Mario.

Beverage director John Dal Canton is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America who moved to Italy to study viticulture and viticulture and then worked for Tom Colicchio’s Craft Restaurant in Dallas and Los Angeles. Most recently he was the Food & Beverage Manager of the Cowboys Club in Frisco.

For the bar program at La Stella, its wine list will include high-quality regional wines, including older vintages of Super Tuscans and Barolos with an emphasis on organic and biodynamic wines, as well as Italian interpretations of modern and classic cocktails.

Chef Iannuario’s menu will be a reinterpretation of beneficial recipes from regions across Italy with a modern twist. Typical dishes include:

  • Fried dumplings with cold cuts and mixed cheese

  • Paccheri All’Astice made with pasta from Gragnano Napoli

  • Fra Diavolo with lobster, tomato and lobster fumetto

  • Risotto Oro del Maestro

  • Salt fish

  • Gratinated dumplings

  • Milanese veal escalope

La Stella will also offer a dry-aged meat program, including imported ham slices at the table. Desserts include Nutella Semifreddo with Meringues and Hot Dark Chocolate Sauce and Faby’s Tiramisu.
