Know Fash-N-Curious
When Janne Durrant decided to start a fashion blog, her mother told Nique Bishop that she would love to do it with her. And so began the arduous task of finding a name. Since they both love fashion, they knew this had to be the focus for their brand, and after several months of brainstorming and searching for a name that hasn’t been used by anyone else, Fash-N-Curious was launched on Jan. Born in February 2017. The basis of their approach is that fashion has no rules and they believe that people should wear what makes them happy. They say personal style – hers is colorful and influenced by her Caribbean heritage – should start from the inside and everything should be worn with confidence. As part of their brand communication through their website (www.fash-n-curious.com) and social media channels, they cover fashion, beauty and lifestyle and even run a curated Amazon shop with products they love.
Not only does the mother-daughter duo share their passion for fashion, but they also hope to help others be their best, most confident selves and find the hero within themselves. They’ve formed a sorority with their online audience, and Mom Niqui took that concept a step further when she founded Sistuhs Keeper (@mysistuhskeeper), a community focused on building bonds between women and helping their women entrepreneurs thrive . In addition, they host meetups across the country and host a Black Friday virtual shopping event that highlights women-run businesses.
The founders of Fash-N-Curious keep reminding their followers that the empowerment they find allows them to fall back on and nurture other people by using their time, talents and resources and mentoring in organizations like The Boys and Girls Become a club and join the Big Brother Big Sister program. An important way to keep Durrant and Bishop updated with the latest news is through local news sources, which play a huge role in shaping their own weekend plans and exploring the community. The news helps them stay up to date and they in turn use their online platform to inform others about social and cultural issues.
Believing that information is power, the Fash-N-Curious duo partnered with The Dallas Morning News and IYKYK (If You Know You Know), an extension of “Do You Know? Campaign.
