Kroger Dallas division president Adam Wampler dies
Adam Wampler, Krogers division president in Dallas who led the retailer through the pandemic, died Wednesday.
Wampler, 48, joined Kroger in 2019 and became president of the 93-store division a few months later, just as COVID-19 made grocery stores the lifeline of shoppers while most other stores were closed.

While he briefly ran the North Texas business, it was intense enough that the staff got to know him well.
“When Adam joined our Kroger Dallas division in 2020, he brought such a wealth of knowledge, positive energy, and selflessness to our division that led our division through one of our most difficult times in our nation’s history,” said April Martin, Kroger spokeswoman .
During Wampler’s tenure, the Kroger division also ratified a new agreement with the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1000 that increases wages and benefits for 11,000 hourly workers.
“His incredible talent and compassion for our employees, customers and communities have left an unforgettable impact on all of us,” said Martin. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Adam’s wife, children, family and friends.”
Wampler’s 30 year grocery career included Kroger’s Fred Meyer division in the Pacific Northwest and many years with Safeway and Albertsons. He played a key role in Safeway’s 2015 merger with Albertsons, which brought Tom Thumb and Randalls together with Albertsons under the same company in Texas.
