Living in San Antonio is ‘as comfortable as an old pair of jeans,’ report says
San Antonio might not be high on the list of the best US cities to live in, but it’s a great place to retreat, according to a new analysis by US News & World Report.
The Alamo City ranked 75th out of 150 metropolitan areas the report ranked based on quality of life, job market, value of life, and people’s desire to live in each city. Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston were all ahead of San Antonio.
While other cities have been valued for their technological advances, natural views, and dramatic urban growth, San Antonio has been recognized for its comfortable, relaxing, and welcoming atmosphere. To describe the city, the analysis was: “San Antonio is as comfortable as an old pair of jeans.”
Boulder, Colorado was voted Best Place to Live. Austin was # 5 among the Texas cities with an overall score of 7.3 out of 10. Dallas-Fort Worth (# 37) and Houston (# 39) were also ahead of San Antonio. A total of 10 Texas cities made it onto the list.

San Antonio has been singled out for its rich “Spanish and Old West” heritage, cuisine, art, and of course, the Spurs. The city’s overall score was 6.6 out of 10. Many benefits of living in San Antonio were highlighted, however there were several low ratings.
According to the analysis, the labor market is less healthy than in other metropolitan areas in the country. San Antonio also performed poorly on the College Readiness Index, and property and violent crime were above the national average in 2020.

San Antonio is below the national average for public transport, but is a city where 90 percent of residents use the car as their main mode of transport. For such a large region, the average commute time is 26.6 minutes, which is slightly faster than the national average.
The city was ranked 24th for best retirement locations, higher than Austin but lower than Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth. Although the cost of housing in the country and San Antonio has increased over time, the Alamo City 2020 average home sale price of $ 282,218 is more affordable than places like Austin.
However, healthcare costs received a low score.
