On June 28, 2021, members of the Interstate Criminal Enforcement Team at the Lowndes County Sheriffs Office conducted a traffic check on a vehicle heading south on I-75 for multiple traffic violations. Contact with the driver and registered owner of the Honda Accord revealed inconsistencies in the itinerary and signs of deception. The driver, identified as Stephanie Renee Carroll Turner of Dallas, Georgia, was traveling with a young adult and two teenagers and consented to have their vehicle searched. MPs discovered about 1 kilo of fentanyl valued at $ 100,000.00 and nearly 4 pounds of crystalline methamphetamine valued at about $ 170,000.00 in the trunk of the vehicle. Turner also had a lot of THC products and a pill in her purse. In addition to the narcotics, Turner was found in possession of a firearm. Turner was arrested and taken to the Lowndes County Jail and charged with trafficking fentanyl, trafficking methamphetamine, possession of a firearm while in crime, possession of a Schedule I narcotic, and possession of a Schedule II narcotic.
