M Streets: Where unique architecture meets laid-back neighbors
There are so many great places to live in Dallas that having an expert by your side helps. The neighborhood guide presented by Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty gives you insider access from the agents living and working there and provides you with in-depth information about your potential new community.

Kimberli Hildreth Bailey always thought she’d be in the commercial real estate industry – after all, her father has been a commercial real estate agent for more than 40 years – but when she first helped a client find their dream home she knew she was addicted.
Now the real estate agent is happy to help others buy and sell in Dallas, especially on M Streets. Named after two of the neighborhood’s most iconic streets, Monticello Avenue and McComas Boulevard, the area was first developed as Greenland Hills in the 1920s.
“I live in Lakewood Heights, east of M Streets,” she says, explaining that the M Streets area technically ends on Skillman Street and that it is east of Skillman. “My husband and I have lived here for almost two years, up from two years in State Thomas. We knew right away that we love East Dallas.”
“It’s just a short drive or even walk from Lower Greenville and Knox-Henderson, and it’s also close to White Rock Lake,” she says. “Lower Greenville is home to some of the funniest restaurants and bars in Dallas, while White Rock Lake is a nice area for people to ride bikes, take long walks, and take their pups to the White Rock Lake Dog Park.”
Bailey showcased some of her personal favorites about life on M Streets. Here is her guide to the area:
Where can you eat and drink
“Times ten cellars is one of the cutest local wine bars in the area, ”she says. “It has its own wine line – the Pinot Noir 2017 is the best – from all of California and Texas. My husband and I love going to Times Ten with our black lab Charlie and sitting outside with a glass of pinot and a meat platter Jimmy’s grocery store. “
Barcelona wine bar, HG Sply Co., Thai Thai, tavern, Hudson House, and E-bar Tex-Mex are also in strong rotation.
If coffee is more your mood, Bailey suggests White Rock Coffee. “Their house mix can’t be beat, and they even have live music every weekend and open mic nights on Thursdays in their flagship store in Lake Highlands,” she says.
Where to play
Bailey name Tietze Park and its water center, Glencoe Park, and White Rock Lake (plus his dog park) as a point of contact.
Where to live
“The typical living styles for this area are Tudor and Craftsman,” says Bailey. “Most of the original homes on M Streets were built in the 1920s, and one of my favorite parts about these homes is their uniqueness. No two are alike, the floor plans are all different – some have hand-painted tiles, stained glass windows and doors, winter gardens and open terraces. “
One of Bailey’s particular joys is uncovering the history of a home and then conveying it to buyers to explain why certain features are still in the structure: “Everything in these older homes has a purpose,” she says.
A prime example of a classic M Streets house is 5802 Mercedes-Allee., a recent Bailey’s sale that sold in just one day (and above list price).
With plenty of natural light, hardwood floors throughout, and a chef’s kitchen with Carrara marble countertops, stainless steel appliances, a gas range, and a wine fridge, it’s not hard to see why.
“Kimberli was a very professional broker who guided us through our transaction with knowledge and patience,” says the seller. “She was very knowledgeable about our particular real estate market and had a great insight into how best to sell our house. Our house was essentially sold before it went on the market – I don’t know how you can improve that! Kimberli is a outstanding Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty is very fortunate to have her on their team. I highly recommend her! “
