Marine returns home, surprises all three sons at school
A Texas Marine Corpsman was reunited with his family on Tuesday in a day of tears and surprise.
KDFW-TV in Dallas reports that students of all ages in the Keller Independent School District expected to hear from a special guest speaker from the military – but they didn’t expect to witness a reunion almost a year later.
Gunnery Sgt. Benni Bennett first surprised his eldest son in his classroom.
“I wasn’t really nervous at first. But when I walked into my oldest classroom, I got nervous,” Bennett told KTVT-TV in Dallas.
But that was just the beginning of an emotional day. Bennett then traveled to a nearby school to surprise his two younger sons in their own classrooms.
Not only did the students share his military experience with his sons classmates, but they also wrote a song to thank Bennett for his service.
It had been 317 days since Bennett had seen his sons, and he said he had seen changes in all three.
“They’ve all gotten bigger. They don’t look that big using FaceTime, but it’s surprising how quickly they’ve grown,” Bennett told KTVT.
Bennett, who has returned from his fourth assignment, will be home 20 days before he has to return. However, he’s glad he’ll be home for Thanksgiving this year.
“I knew I could see her again one day. It’s here. I’m grateful,” he said.
