More than 2.2 million people visited State Fair of Texas in its 2021 return
After 705 days without visitors on the grounds of Fair Park, the State Fair of Texas opened its gates to more than 2.2 million people in 2021, the organizers of the state fair said in a statement.
Last year, the State Fair of Texas was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic and a drive-through option for up to 50,000 cars was offered. The State Fair typically attracts more than 2.5 million people.
“We are incredibly grateful that we have helped reunite friends and families for the time-honored State Fair tradition,” said Texas State Fair President Mitchell Glieber in a statement.
In a detailed report, the State Fair said that around 520,000 Fletcher’s Original Corny Dogs had been sold that year, nearly 200,000 pounds of canned food donated to the North Texas Food Bank, and a new concessionaire, Mac Loaded, more than 5,500 bowls of macaroni and Cheese.
This year, trade fair visitors had the opportunity to be vaccinated against COVID-19 on the exhibition grounds; More than 1,000 vaccines have been distributed by Dallas County Health and Human Services, the organization said.
The State Fair Classic and the AT&T Red River Showdown also drew more than 130,000 fans to the Cotton Bowl Stadium. The ranching stable had 54 animal births and 24 dogs were adopted through the Subaru exhibition sponsored by DFW Rescue Me.
More than 36,000 toys were won on the State Fair Midway and 125,000 rides on the Texas Star Ferris Wheel.
“We’re excited to be getting back to normal,” said Mary Talley, owner of Sky Spectacle, State Fair Spectacular, Talley Amusements and the Texas Star Ferris Wheel, in a statement. “Comeback is always stronger than setback, and our return to the State Fair of Texas is no exception.”
Proceeds from the State Fair will be used to improve the Fair Park, along with other community initiatives, including supporting higher education and funding museums, the organization said.
In 2022, the State Fair will be held at Fair Park from September 30th to October 23rd.
