News Bites: Koryo Kalbi’s Comeback and Niku Bar’s Lower Greenville Arrival

Lower Greenville, meeting with Niku Bar

The neighborhood just got tastier. Manpuku, that brought Japanese yakiniku Barbecue in Lower Greenville this summer, October 7th will feature its outdoor patio spot, the Niku Bar, beef ramen) by Chef Kentaro Tsunoda. To top off European-Japanese food, you’ll find whiskey, sangria, and craft beer. And just in time for the Texas / OU weekend (and until October 21), the Niku Bar is open Monday through Friday from 5pm to 7pm and Saturday and Sunday from 12pm to 7pm.

Koryo Kalbi is making a welcome comeback

Speaking of barbecues, this time from the Korean conviction, Koryo Kalbi plans to reopen after a long hiatus. The beloved Korean grill restaurant had tacitly closed sometime in the last year, perhaps in the summer of 2020 amid several pandemic closings. But now reports Esser Dallas, Royal Lane Restaurant has reopened under new ownership who retained “the charcoal grilled meats, soups and other classic Korean dishes that made Koryo Kalbi a Koreatown institution.” As for new things, the new owners have done some renovations and improved the quality of the beef.

Sister – sibling restaurant of The Charles – is open

Dallas has been anticipating the arrival of Sister, the Greenville Avenue restaurant with an Italian and Mediterranean twist since Word spread that Chas Martin from The Charles would take over the old Grape location. About two years since the Grape closed, the Lower Greenville address is once again a warm and welcoming restaurant. Dallas Morning News has the details.

Bell’s Sweet Factory brings authentic New Orleans cuisine to Plano

The celebrity-recognized restaurant with humble beginnings opens on October 17th. Owners and couple Ashley Johnson and Thaddeus Bell caught the attention of Houston rapper Megan Thee Stallion and cowboys Dak Prescott for their food: gumbo, fried fish, crab cakes, all with an authentic New Orleans flair. Now the duo will be opening an upscale restaurant on 2109 West Parker Road in Plano these months. Reports DMN. Until then, you can find her on the weekend from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the food truck in front of the upcoming restaurant or during the week on 2600 K Avenue.

Amid the ongoing shortage of restaurant workers, Fish & Fizz is only available for takeout

For the Morning news, Nick Rallo reports that Richardson’s fish and chip shop has closed its dining room (for now) and will only be take-away. Owner Nick Barclay cites the difficulty of finding employees for his restaurant on Coit Road. The nationwide labor problem has affected several industries, with the service sector being one of the hardest hit. In a September story of the observer, Texas’s recreational and hospitality employment rate is down 7 percent from pre-pandemic levels, but has a record number of job openings. There is probably still a long way to go before these headcount numbers return to normal.

Happy Trails to Brian Reinhart from the Dallas Observer

After five and a half years and 144 restaurant reviews, the restaurant’s critic says goodbye. Reinhart doesn’t say where his next chapter will be in his farewell post, but we hope it’s delicious somewhere.

Zalat’s newest outpost in Dallas opens on October 11th

With a number of new openings for the local pizzeria, Zalat Pizza’s newest location is keeping the momentum this coming Monday at Forest & Central (11613 North Central Expressway, Suite 111). Khanh Nguyen’s pizza concept brought Zalat to Arlington and Irving earlier this year, as well as his first spot at The Exchange Hall in the AT&T Discovery District.
