North Texas student finds TikTok fame

DALLAS – When Franky Delgado began his weight loss journey in his freshman year at the University of North Texas, he was determined to lead a healthier lifestyle.

“I started my freshman year of college at £ 310,” Delgado said.

That was in 2017. Delgado says it took him a year and a half to lose 120 pounds.

Then COVID-19 hit and turned his life and that of other UNT students upside down.

“The reason I started doing TikToks was because I was bored at home like everyone else,” Delgado said. He started compiling videos for the popular app showing people how to exercise at home.

In addition to exercising, Delgado gave advice on the low-calorie options people could eat to help maintain a calorie deficit. His videos showed better opportunities in restaurants, fast food outlets, and grocery stores.

“You have to make sure that you eat things in moderation and that you are sticking to a diet that you can actually follow, not just, you know, pure cold turkey everything,” Delgado added.

Eventually, his videos started drawing attention.

“I never expected it. I just did it for fun because everyone was trying new things during the pandemic, “he said.

Delgados TikTok, known as “@FrankyFitness”, has more than 332,000 followers and a total of around 7 million likes.

Delgado, who is now a senior at UNT, regularly posts videos and works to build his brand.

Its goal is to give people realistic ways to experience healthy weight loss that can last.

Though he’s not finished with his own fitness journey, Delgado says he’s happy to be making a positive impact on people’s health.

“Your journey ends, but then your new journey begins,” said Delgado.
