NYC’s Prince Street Pizza Opens Pop-Up at Dallas’s Deep Ellum Distillery
Prince Street Pizza, a popular but controversial silicon-style cake shop based in New York City, is planning a pop-up in Dallas by the end of October.
Known for its square pies with a crispy but fluffy crust, PSP was founded in New York City in 2012. One of the most popular pizzas is the Spicy Spring, which is prepared with Fra Diavolo sauce and crispy cupping peppers. The Dallas pop-up, sponsored by Uber Eats and the Off the Menu Club, a secret menu app, also features special slices just for Off The Menu members, including a Birria pizza from Vietnamese street food spot Cris and John. The pop-up will take place Thursday, October 21 through the end of the month at the Deep Ellum Distillery on 2880 Clover Street.
Loved by New Yorkers, the store is a frequent stopover for celebs like the Kardashians, Shailene Woodley, and Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler. But it has come under review in recent months after the father and son team behind the restaurant were accused of posting racist and derogatory comments on social media.
Late last year, Minnesota-based food blogger Joe Rosenthal re-surfaced comments allegedly made on Yelp over the past three years by Prince Street founder Frank Morano, including hostile public reactions to many black customers who said they were Treated badly in the restaurant and direct messages to a specific customer using anti-Asian racial slurs. Rosenthal also shared Facebook posts from Frank’s son Dominic Morano, who acts as the face of the restaurant, mocking Black Lives Matter protesters who were hit by cars.
Prince Street apologized in response to the allegations, stating that Frank and Dominic Moreno would retire from customer-facing roles and run the business. However, both Morenos still own the business – and are likely to benefit from it.
The Prince Street Pizza Dallas Pop-up will take place October 21-31 at 2880 Clover Street. PSP will also be available through Uber Eats from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM through October 31.
