Eating in the dark
This week you can attend an event that raises the bar for an Olympic sport, dine in the dark, enjoy a steak dinner with whiskey, get free guacamole and decide for yourself whether mermaids are real. Good food and beer can be the highlight of your week.
Try the gold at The Rustic
3656 Howell Street (Uptown)
What: A $ 4 shot to celebrate the Olympics. Made from Hornitos Plata, pineapple and orange juice, Gold Luster Dust and Tabasco for the kick.
When: Until the end of the Tokyo Olympics, August 8th
Tickets: None required.
In Rustic you can cheer for the USA all day long with the “Shot for the Gold”. Made with hornitos plata, pineapple and orange juice, golden luster dust, and a dash of Tabasco sauce, you can shoot it or sip it while you watch the games.

Eating in the dark

What: Eat a three-course dinner blindfolded in a candlelit room.
When: Seats at 6 p.m. or 8:30 p.m., Wednesday July 28th
Tickets: $ 80 per person through Fever Dallas.
The menus are a surprise – that’s part of the experience – but you can choose between a vegan meal, steak or seafood. The senses are sharpened in the dark and you have the opportunity to focus on the taste and smell of the meal without any visual cues.
The experience is also offered on Thursday evenings in August.
Heaven’s Door Dinner in the Knife Plano

What: A four-course menu including combinations with Heaven’s Door Bourbons.

Enjoy a special meal in Chef John Tesar’s Knife Steakhouse with paired spirits for each course. Meals include beef tartare, quail, and dry aged ribeye with pairings of straight bourbon, straight rye, and a double barreled bourbon. A welcome cocktail and a dessert cocktail as well as a chocolate and whiskey cake for dessert are served.
Cedar & Vine Pop Up Beer Dinner at Oak Highlands Brewery

Several live music acts include headlining Ryan Berg and the Velvet Ears. Yes, there will be mermaids, as well as aerial acts and fire dancers.

What: A pub crawl hosted by Dallasites 101
When: Saturday, July 31st, 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Get wristband access to drink specials (not included) in 11 bars decorated to celebrate the countries participating in the Olympics. Raise a glass to the Dominican Republic at Deep Ellum Distillery, Germany at Dot’s Hop House, Belize at Tiki Loco, and good ol ‘USA at Backyard.
An after party from 5 p.m. in Mama Tried extends the fun into the evening with photo sessions, specialty drinks and live music.

Beer dinner with 3 Nations Brewing in the Hillside Tavern

What: The Hillside Tavern is hosting their very first beer dinner. 3 Nations Brewing brings the beer.
When: 5:00 p.m. Sunday 1st August
Tickets: No tickets, but you need to reply to Brooks Anderson via email. The cost is $ 75 plus tax and tip, including all food and any paired beer. Please visit the Hillside Tavern Facebook page for more information.
To give you an idea, the first course consists of compressed watermelon and local tomato salad with cucumber, whipped feta, mixed vegetables, basil, shaved fennel and Cam’s hot honey, served with sucker punch watermelon stout. Other items on the menu include mussel escabeche, a Middle Eastern-flavored “taco” made from Tate Farms beef, prime NY smoked strip steak, and Texas sheetcake. Yum.
