Pioneering restaurant in Dallas Design District closes after 10 years

Chic restaurant in the Dallas Design District Oak closes this weekend. According to a notice, the restaurant is celebrating its last two days this weekend, so now you can hurry on the phone for a last minute reservation.

The release suggests that something else is coming in its place, and owner Richard Ellman says it will definitely be something new.

“It’s not a rebranding, it’s a new concept and a new restaurant,” he says.

Oak was one of the earliest restaurants in the Dallas Design District a decade ago, followed by restaurants like FT33, Sassetta, and WheelHouse, all of which closed.

“A lot has changed in the Design District, which used to be a hot topic,” says Ellman.

Oak also launched Ellman’s successful restaurant career. He has since opened El Bolero, Pakpao and Hawthorn, which just opened in AT & T’s Discovery District, and is also nominated for Best New Restaurant at CultureMap’s Tastemaker Awards (vote here).

The publication states that there will be a lot of specials and fun creations this weekend.

The restaurant is on the DFW Restaurant Week list, but a spokesman did not respond to inquiries about whether it would still attend.
