Plano ISD’s Board of Trustees took the first steps to sell the district’s Shiloh Center facility during its October 19 meeting. The board of directors unanimously voted to declare the 56,000 square foot facility as excess land and sign a contract with real estate company CBRE to begin marketing the approximately 5.6 acre site.

District CFO Randy McDowell said PISD has received a number of inquiries from real estate professionals about clients interested in purchasing the property due to its proximity to the proposed Shiloh Road Station, which will be part of the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Silver Line project , are interested.

“We know the building is likely to be worth a lot more now than it was a year or two ago,” said McDowell.

The 26-mile east-west Silver Line project will connect seven cities and four counties in the North Dallas area, including the city of Plano. It is scheduled to go into operation in 2024.

The $ 1.89 billion project includes the construction of 10 new train stations, including Shiloh Road Station in Plano, and an upgrade to 12th Street Station.

According to DART, Shiloh Road Station is expected to serve 690 passengers a day by 2040.

McDowell said the Shiloh Center, located at 3540 14th St., is home to around 150 district employees. He estimates that around 130 of them work in the district’s special education.

“This is really a home for a lot of these employees,” said McDowell, noting that most of the employees work primarily with students on campus. “If you enter this building on a certain day, it is not often manned by staff.”

The other 20 or so employees housed at the facility work with departments like assessment, accountability, technology, and library and media, McDowell said.

“We are evaluating what other options there are to move all or most of these employees to other PISD facilities,” said McDowell. “Yours is in most school districts [traveling] Special educators are … housed close to the campus they supervise. “

According to McDowell, PISD bought Shiloh Center, a former grocery store, from Albertsons Companies Inc. in 1997 for a little over $ 1 million.

“This is definitely a first step – we are not making a commitment to sell this property,” said CEO David Stolle. “We are not speculative real estate investors; However, there is an opportunity to make some money and we should certainly consider that. “
