DALLAS, October 7, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Polte, the innovator of Cloud Location over Cellular (C-LoC) technology, today announced a partnership with VMware to provide an Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN) solution for global 5G Precise Positioning to enable Polte as. uses an xApp on the RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) platform from VMware. This partnership aims to address the security, accuracy and seamless cellular continuity challenges that previously created access barriers to 5G Precise Positioning in use cases from Industry 4.0 to 5G Critical IoT. By expanding the Open RAN architecture, Polte and VMware are working together to stimulate innovation while offering system integrators a wider choice of RAN providers.

“Together, the 5G Precise Positioning solution from Polte and VMware aims to meet the increasing requirements for corporate security while at the same time ensuring accuracy down to the sub-meter range with private networks,” said Stephen Spellicy, Vice president of product marketing and business development, service provider and edge, VMware. “We plan to open up a host of new global use cases for asset tracking, especially within 5G Industrial and Critical IoT.”
The RIC introduced by the O-RAN Alliance is a core element of the Open RAN architecture, which enables operators to start and optimize new cloud-native services and xApps without interruption. VMware’s RIC offers a third party software development kit (SDK) to develop innovative new applications for Open RAN and enables operators to seamlessly integrate such applications into their networks. It will enable Polte’s Location xApp not only to democratize 5G Precise Positioning, but also to provide a basis for other xApps that benefit from location detection.
“Solution providers should view location as a system, not a feature.” said Polte CEO Ed chao. “Taking a holistic location approach in the earliest stages of any 5G implementation is fundamental to the success of delivering value to 5G companies.”
As a leading provider of cellular locations, Polte’s domain expertise and 70 global patents and pending patents are key to unlocking the full potential of 5G positioning for businesses. 5G enables Polte to change the usefulness of cellular positioning and achieve optimal accuracy for macro networks and private 5G networks. The Open RAN RIC-based 5G Precise Positioning solution from Polte and VMware provides companies with more secure communication with all devices and their own cloud architecture required for the most advanced, mission-critical communication.
Polte and VMware are both contributing members of the O-RAN Alliance as well as participants in the 5G Open Innovation Lab, a collaborative ecosystem that brings together leading corporate partners with innovative startups that are leveraging the power and potential of 5G and edge computing to build what comes next.
