Preston Oaks is almost rebuilt, with Sample House, Talbots and Marco’s Pizza set to return
Preston Oaks Mall has its grocery store back, and now smaller stores will return to a newly built strip on the southeast corner of Preston Road and Royal Lane.
The Central Market reopened Wednesday, and the Regency Centers said the south side of the property is nearing completion after the October 2019 tornadoes, causing more than $ 2 billion in damage to businesses and homes.
“We will be returning the space to our returning dealers for their own construction on August 25,” said Eric Davidson, spokesman for the mall owner in Jacksonville, Florida. He said the company tried to match the architecture and light brown brick facades with what had been there.
Sample House, the popular chain of seven gift and home decor stores based in Dallas, is making a return, as is womenswear retailer Talbots, who had just opened a store in the center before being hit. Talbots has listed vacancies for Preston Oaks on its website.
Companies that have signed leases include Hollywood Feed, Fish City Grill, Tip Top Cleaners, Preston Animal Clinic, I Heart Yogurt, and Marco’s Pizza.

Reconstruction was delayed by the pandemic and some companies, including Gap and Interabang Books, decided not to return. Gap is reducing the number of stores and plans to close 220 stores by early 2024. The void in the NorthPark Center was closed during the pandemic.
Interabang has a new location. Within two weeks of the tornado, Nancy Perot’s independent bookstore moved into temporary space in the pavilion on Lovers Lane, where it has chosen to stay. The bookstore is celebrating its fourth anniversary this month.
