Proper English pub springs up in former home of Dallas’ Tipperary Inn

There’s a new pub opening in Dallas’ Lakewood neighborhood on sacred pub grounds: Called The brewers guns, it opens in a redesigned space in Buzzbrews Kitchen at 5815 Live Oak St. that seasoned pubs will remember was the former home of the former Tipperary Inn.

The pub is part of the Buzzbrews family, says Buzzbrews founder Ernest Belmore, and was born out of his desire to provide a worthy place for the locals.

“We’d been doing live music for 11 years with our classic open mic nights at Lakewood Buzzbrews, and some of the musicians wanted a better stage,” says Belmore. “They are all real musicians and I wanted to amplify what we had.”

He started working with Bob Suffolk, a native of Britain, founder of a band called Fabulous Poodles and a renowned studio design guru who has designed studios for local and national names like Dallas musician Salim Nourallah.

“We only got one stage up and running on a tight budget,” says Belmore. “But when we worked together things started moving towards a British style pub given his background and now here we are.”

They split the interior of Buzzbrews in two and furnished the new space with the decor and spirit of an old world pub. There are pretty dark woods, cozy alcoves, and British memorabilia on the walls.

They serve pub fare including English style fish and chips, Shepherd’s Pie, Bangers & Mash, and a full Monty breakfast, as well as plenty of British ales and Irish whiskey.

“It’s going to be a small pub menu, we’re not sure what the final menu will look like yet, and it will likely have some buzzbrews dishes, but we know we will have traditional pub food,” says Belmore .

For Belmore, it was a welcome distraction from the pandemic and also a tribute to the history of space.

“The area has great bars like Cosmo’s and Lakewood Landing and Cock & Bull, but it used to be a pub that people still ask about,” he says. “I felt like it was a void and it gave me inspiration, it made me feel like I was giving something back.”

Live music and entertainment are an integral part, and there will be themes every night, from open mic nights on Mondays to flamenco jazz on Wednesdays to the trivia nights she hosts all the time at Buzzbrews on Thursdays to have.

Their grand opening is slated for late November, but they opened very quietly and will be spending the next few weeks refining the details day by day.

“We’re already serving fish and chips,” says Belmore.
