Salone del Mobile’s first female president, Dallas Market Center’s new director, and more

This month, brands in the home industry are mixing things up with a slew of new executives and several newly created positions at the top. Read on for the monthly summary of Business of Home arrivals and departures in design, manufacturing, media, and more.

Design & architecture

The BIG-Bjarke Ingels Group has expanded its staff by 33 new employees; a new director, Jens Majdal Kaarsholm; and seven new partners, including Andy Young, Lorenzo drowned, João Albuquerque, Douglass alligood, Lars Larsen, Giulia Frittoli and Daria Pahhota. In the past four years, the company has more than doubled to a team of more than 500 people, in part due to efforts to expand operations to include landscape, engineering and product design.

Tennessee-based Cope Architecture announced a series of leadership changes as past president Lanny Cope changes into a new role as President Emeritus with the former Executive Vice President Cayce Smith follows him. The main architects of the office, Peter Ludmann and Jim Hinton, were promoted to Director of Design and Vice President, respectively.

Janea Nakagawa was named President of BraytonHughes Design Studios. She succeeds the former president Joel Villalonwho has served the company since the beginning of its 30-year history. Nakagawa first joined the company in 2005, becoming its first female director, specializing in corporate, multi-family and residential projects for a diverse clientele.

Media & PR

Tom Russell joined Home News Now as Editor-in-Chief – a role formerly the founding editor Clint angelwho will continue to work as editor-in-chief. Russell previously held several editorial positions at Furniture Today from 2003, most recently as managing editor of the website for luggage and global sourcing. His background also includes roles as editor of the Triad Business Journal, which covered the High Point Market and the home furnishings industry in general, and as a business editor for the High Point Enterprise.

UpSpring PR has discontinued Oriana Lerner as Associate Communications Director to add hospitality, architecture, design and real estate clients. Lerner’s work in the industry includes several B2B editorial roles including editor for special projects and conference program manager for the hotel brand Boutique Design.

Also at UpSpring, Selin Ashaboglu left the company to take on the role of PR and Marketing Manager at Carnegie. Ashaboglu brings experience as a former Senior Account Executive at UpSpring and as Associate Editor for Products, Technology and Practice at Architect Magazine, the magazine of the American Institute of Architects.

Jamie Glushon has been promoted to Managing Director of The Consultancy PR. Glushon’s experience with the firm includes previous senior public relations director and public relations director positions, as well as similar positions at Society6, Hutch and Laurel & Wolf. At other company events, Sarah day moved to an account executive position after joining the firm as a PR coordinator. TCPR also welcomes a couple of new faces there Lauren Guizzetti and Savannah Davis join the team as the newest PR coordinator and retire from positions Kim Kardashian West or RK Communications.

Retail & Manufacturing

Former CEO of Herman Miller Brian Walker has joined Room’s adaptive office solutions board of directors. In addition to his 29-year tenure at Herman Miller, Walker is currently a strategic lead partner at private equity firm Huron Capital and will support Room in building its global supply chain towards international expansion.

The luxury linen brand Peacock Alley has done it Grant Jackson as vice president of customer experience; his job is to expand the company’s retail and wholesale areas. Grant brings nearly 10 years of textile and home decorating experience, including serving as North American Sales Director for Perennials and Sutherland LLC.

Arctic has opened up Kait Paradowski as the next Design Director, a position operating from the brand’s new headquarters in Charlestown, Massachusetts. In the newly created role, Paradowski will lead the brand’s design department, overseeing the in-house collections and the design proposal process for new customers.

Interior designer and wholesaler Four Hands welcomed Jim Anderson as the first Chief Technology Officer, with the goal of replacing the brand’s current technology suite with new cutting-edge platforms by mid-2022. Anderson’s 25 years of experience most recently included a position as COO at the White Mountain Footwear Group.

Phil Cole has joined the Clive Christian Furniture leadership team in the role of Global Sales Director. Cole’s background spans nearly a decade working at British fittings manufacturer Perrin & Rowe, which expanded to include Shaws of Darwen and Victoria + Albert after the company was acquired by Fortune Brands.

To trade

Salone del Mobile has named Maria Porro as the new president – she is the first woman in the 59-year history of the fair. In addition to his role as President of Assarredo, Porro’s industry experience includes a previous position at the Italian design brand Porro SpA and on the board of directors of the Altagamma Foundation.

Dallas Market Center welcomes Troy Hanson in the newly created role of Senior Leasing Director, Design and New Business Development. Hanson was previously the co-founder, director and producer of the WestEdge Design Fair in Santa Monica, California, and the leasing director and producer of Mart, where he started the Architectural Digest Design Show. In his new role, Hanson will oversee strategic merchandising, prospecting and leasing of design districts within the DMC.

Jacob Teplin joined MarketTime in the newly established position of COO; he will be responsible for all aspects of sales, customer care, and operations of the software solutions company. Teplin’s 15-year experience includes a previous position as vice president of corporate development at Dallas-based Crow Holdings, as well as an operational role at Bain & Company leading revenue growth projects for Fortune 500 companies.

Industry organizations

The New School has the appointment of. announced Jonah night as Senior Vice President for Development and Alumni Engagement. Nigh joins the university after a previous position as Chief Development Officer of the Jewish Museum in New York, and his experience has expanded to include institutions such as Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, Opera America, and the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
