This week the nation celebrates the 20th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks. From day zero, the day of the attacks, The Dallas Morning News covered the event and its aftermath, including its impact on the city and the war that followed.

The covers of the 9/11 issues, including anniversaries and special reports, feature unforgettable photos of the attacks. They show the devastation in New York City and Washington, DC and begin to tell the story of the human sacrifice. This becomes even clearer in the first anniversary special, which features the names and photos of the victims from those cities and the United Airlines Flight 93 crash in Pennsylvania.

For this anniversary, the focus returns to those front pages and headlines to re-examine national coverage and its impact at the local level. The stories included outline the long-term consequences of September 11th, from heightened security measures to political changes in North Texas. The pictures stand alone.
