SkillsUSA and Invitation Homes Announce Partnership to Help Close the Skills Gap

LEESBURG, Virginia & DALLAS – (BUSINESS WIRE) –SkillsUSA and Invitation Homes (NYSE: INVH) have partnered for three years to help fill the skills gap and expand skilled worker education. Invitation Homes’ contribution will support SkillsUSA’s mission to empower its members to become world class workers, leaders, and responsible American citizens, and prepare students for careers in the retail industry. Through the partnership, Invitation Homes addresses the skilled labor shortage in the US that is fueling a growing skill gap.

Invitation Homes will pilot two locations in Tampa and Charlotte in the upcoming school year and plans to expand its support to all corporate markets by the 2023-24 academic year. As an employer, Invitation Homes will invest in a skilled workforce and build a strong network of students, teachers and employees across the country who are committed to creating avenues for success within the industry. Invitation homes work with SkillsUSA through:

  • Supporting SkillsUSA Works, a program for students in underserved schools and communities that offers career preparation courses through the SkillsUSA Career Essentials program, along with casseroles on job opportunities in the craft trades.

  • Supporting opportunities for all students at the National SkillsUSA human resource development conferences, including the annual National Leadership and Skills Conference and the Washington Leadership Training Institute.

“Professionals are the backbone of our business,” said Dallas Tanner, president and chief executive officer of Invitation Homes. “We know how important it is to invest in talent in order to offer and maintain a superior product. Our mission at Invitation Homes is: ‘Together with you we will turn a house into a home’ and we could not fulfill this mission without our qualified employees. ”

Elizabeth Galloway, Invitation Homes chief human resources officer, also points out the link between the company’s work and SkillsUSA’s mission. “We are committed to finding, recruiting, and training a future class of students in the middle qualification industry because we are committed to the value of that work every day. Our talent acquisition teams can confirm that there is a skills gap that can make it difficult to find talent in each of our markets. We also know that these jobs offer significant growth opportunities – including moving up to management positions or the opportunity to own and run your own business. For this reason we have decided to strengthen the future talent pool in our industry and to help. ”

Chelle Travis, Executive Director of SkillsUSA, underlines the urgent need to recruit and train future professionals. “We roll up our sleeves every day to serve vocational and technical education and forge meaningful partnerships between education and industry that lead to a better educated workforce and ultimately a smaller skill gap. We can make this happen in cooperation with Invitation Homes. ”
