Storm chances clearing in Dallas-Fort Worth as weekend approaches

After a week with impending rain over Dallas-Fort Worth, the weather should stay reliably dry at least until Saturday.

It will be partly cloudy for most of the weekend, with a high of 88 on Friday and a low of 90 on Saturday and Sunday, said KXAS-TV (NBC5) chief meteorologist Rick Mitchell.

“The main thing is that it doesn’t get incredibly hot, which is good at this time of year,” he said.

Last month was the warmest June on record for North America, the New York Times reported. But the summer in north Texas hasn’t brought record heat as the wet weather helped keep temperatures down, Mitchell said.

He predicted the region won’t see its first three-digit day in at least 10 days. In recent summers, D-FW experienced its first 100 degree day in June or July with an average date of July 1st.

According to the National Weather Service, there have only been 15 summers since 1899 that didn’t have a 100-degree day before or in July. The last one was in 2007.

A weak cold front can move on Sunday, which means that there is little chance of isolated storms and slightly lower temperatures.

“Also, changes in the weather will be very difficult to notice over the next few days,” said Mitchell.
