Take a look at this Dallas-Fort Worth business founder’s nearly 10,000-acre Colorado ranch buy

In one of Colorado’s most expensive land sales this year, a North Texas company founder bought a 9,600-acre ranch through an environmental and conservation foundation he founded with his wife.

Shawn Broussard, founder and CEO of McKinney-based Service First Mortgage, and his wife Martha Broussard bought the property in May. It was listed for $ 33.9 million.

“We founded the Broussard Environmental and Wildlife Conservation Foundation with my late father-in-law, Dr. Jess Bescos, who has always had a love for nature, ”said Shawn Broussard in a statement. “The 9,600 hectares of contiguous acres of this ranch in the Piedra Valley are the perfect legacy project for our foundation and will fuel our conservation mission. We are very excited to be the stewards of this pristine property for future generations to enjoy. “

The couple plans to use the property to educate others about the need for conservation efforts, said realtor Ashton Theiss, who represented the Broussards in the sale. Theiss said the Broussards want to use space as an example to teach people what conservation effort takes and what it looks like in practice. The Broussards hope to buy more land in the future to continue conservation efforts.

The Piedra Valley Ranch, as the property is called, is north of Pagosa Springs. It has a lake, mountain streams, ponds, wildlife, a herd of elk, and shares more than nine miles of boundary with the San Juan National Forest.

The property has a 6,400-square-foot lodge, 1,577-square-foot cabin, and 1,628-square-foot cold store.

Theiss said it was rare to find such a large, contiguous piece of land.

“It was ideal to have something that they could really protect and preserve for future generations,” said Theiss.
