Texas A&M to Build Research Campus in Downtown Fort Worth – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth
Texas A&M announced Wednesday that it will be building a world-class research campus on land it already owns alongside its law school in downtown Fort Worth.
The law faculty is also getting a new building.
“When we first looked at it, we just thought, ‘Wow, that’s it,'” said John Sharp, Chancellor of Texas A&M University. “We’re already in love with Fort Worth.”
Sharp says it only makes sense in the fastest growing cities in the country.
“To be honest, we’re talking about developing Aggieland North,” said Sharp. “This is going to be a big part of what Texas A&M and Texas A&M systems are all about, and we really want to be very involved in Fort Worth.”
Renderings of what the campus will look like show how it will change the face of the southeast side of downtown.
Mayor Mattie Parker says the new campus will help the city recruit new businesses and work with those already based here.
“It’s a transformation for Fort Worth,” said Parker. “It’s the right kind of partnership with Texas A&M.”
The city is planning to expand the area into a “Convention Center district”.

City booster John Goff, a prominent developer, helped showcase the idea with former mayor Betsy Price.
“This will be a turning point,” said Goff. “In my opinion, the cornerstone of Fort Worth’s future will be to bring A&M to downtown Fort Worth with this campus and everything they bring.”
The university could break ground as early as next summer with the first two buildings, which will cost $ 250-300 million, Sharp said.
