Photography buffs and influencers flock to Texas to capture some of the most photogenic landscapes in the country. But with so many options, choosing the best location for your unique shot can be overwhelming. From suburban street art to rugged mountain ranges, we’ve found the nine most Instagram-worthy places across Texas.
Memorable murals
Texas is full of colorful murals, so keep an eye out for some amazing street art. Austin is home to some of the largest and brightest – literally. The mural of Tau Ceti on the corner of Brazos and 2nd St; occupies the entire 103ft of the 10 story building. Its rainbow colors play with light and perspective, making it a great backdrop to take a bold pose. In Houston, you can’t miss Graffiti Park, with its walls of incredible murals that stretch around the block. When you’re feeling inspired to do more than just tag your Instagram post, head up Route 66 to Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo. In the interactive installation you can add your own art to the 10 painted Cadillacs.
Mckinney Falls State Park
Get up close and personal with nature at Mckinney Falls State Park and practice your nature photography in the varied landscape. Experience the splash of the mesmerizing waterfalls where Onion Creek pours over the limestone ledges. Then capture the rugged beauty of the park’s nature trails as you search for “Old Baldy,” the 500-year-old bald cypress. This 30 meter high giant is a popular photo opportunity; especially for so-called ‘tree huggers’.
Thanksgiving place
Don’t let the misleading name fool you, Dallas Thanks-Giving Square has nothing to do with turkey and pumpkin pie. The square was conceived as a peaceful spiritual haven in the city where all religions can come together to give thanks. This zen room is a great place to take some quick pictures, especially the Thanksgiving chapel. You’ll find the spiral stained glass ceiling tossing its rainbow across the room, giving you a great opportunity to snap a selfie.
The Rio Grande
It wouldn’t really be a trip to Texas if you didn’t have a picture of the stunning Rio Grande winding its way through the desert. To get the most out of the Rio Grande, spend a few days on an adventurous raft trip with local outfitters on the river. Take the time to snap the perfect sunset shot of the walls of Boquillas Canyon and the expanses of the desert.
Blanton Museum of Art
Visit the Blanton Museum of Art in Austin on Thursdays when admission is free. The architecture of the museum is an interactive work of art in itself, from the staircase installation “stacked waters” to the circular stained glass wall. It’s the perfect place to model a pop of color or an impromptu photo shoot. The museum is home to a permanent collection of European, Latin American, and contemporary art, as well as unique international exhibits for you to explore.
The atx sculpture
In Austin, you can’t miss the iconic Atx sculpture in front of Whole Foods on Fifth Street and North Lamar Boulevard. The sign is a landmark of Austin and was designed to celebrate the city. The team of artists who designed it (Ion Art) made it an interactive feature, encouraging visitors to do whatever they can to get the perfect shot – including sitting, standing, and climbing on top of the sculpture!
Palo Duro Canyon State Park
The country’s second largest canyon, Palo Duro Canyon State Park, provides a scenic backdrop for a fun photo shoot. Hike the trails to explore the landscape of layered rocks or take a horseback riding tour from Old West Stables for memorable equestrian shots. Stay in a minimalist cabin at Palo Duro Glamping amid fairy lights, wildflowers, and hammock vibes on the veranda.

Hamilton Pool Reserve
While swimming isn’t always guaranteed, you’d better bring your bikini to the cave waterfall pool at Hamilton Pool Preserve. The dreamy 50-foot waterfall pours over the canyon rim into the basin of the collapsed grotto on the other side. This place is truly unique and is sure to make your followers as green with envy as the turquoise water of the pool. Book your reservation in advance through the website and find out about guided walking tours to learn more about the history of the reserve.
Fort Worth Water Gardens
An unexpected oasis in downtown Fort Worth, the Water Gardens are known for their unique architecture and engineering. The three basins combine to form an interactive fountain installation made of geometric patterns. Every point of view gives you the opportunity to take a pose in creative compositions.
