IIt’s been two crazy years since Bon Appétit named Dallas Restaurant City of the Year 2019. But even during a pandemic, our city’s gastronomy scene persevered. With the staggering number of recent openings (particularly in Deep Ellum, Bishop Arts, and downtown), it’s easy to forget that many in the industry are still struggling, but Texas restaurants have innovated to offer the convenience food – and the cocktails – which we need . Now is the time to look forward to the news from the Dallas restaurant.

Omni Dallas Hotel adds two new restaurants

The gastronomic center of the Omni Dallas’ Restaurants on Lamar has been joined by two new restaurants, which are being looked after by Executive Sous Chef Erik Carison. Hops & Hens will be a chicken restaurant with specials, sandwiches and local brews. Highlights include The Texan with BBQ sauce, bacon and crispy onions and TX Hot with TX hot sauce, kale salad, homemade sauce and cucumber.

The other new place, Pegasus Pizza, will bring Neapolitan style pizza to the area including margherita, carne, BBQ brisket, herb chicken, buffalo chicken and more variations. Hops & Hens will debut on November 4th, while Pegasus Pizza will open later this month.

Hawkers Asian Street Food debuts in Deep Ellum

This Wednesday, November 3rd, the first location of this new pan-Asian spot will open in Texas in Deep Ellum. The concept comes from Florida and comes from four friends who travel to Asia regularly. Hawkers offers Malaysian, Thai and Chinese street food and is the perfect place to explore a variety of dishes. Popular items on the menu include pork belly bao, pad thai, curry duck noodle, and more. There are also tiki-inspired cocktails as well as sake and Japanese whiskey. Brunch offerings include Pandan Kaya Pancakes and Kimchi Bloody Marys.

Upscale Asian-inspired steakhouse Nuri Grill opens in Koreatown

This new upscale, Asian-inspired steakhouse, debuting Nov. 9 at 2254 Royal Lane, Suite 100, brings fried kimchi rice, sweet chicken, tofu salad, marinated calbi short rib and more to Dallas Koreatown. Founded by Wan Kim, originally from Korea and CEO of Smoothie King, Nuri Grill offers grills at every table for the waiters to prepare meat for guests. The cocktail program includes Japanese whiskeys and wine. And the menu is put together by Michelin Guide-recognized chef Minji Kim and her husband Ben Lee.

Van Leeuwen from NYC comes to the West Village

First reported by CultureMap, this Brooklyn-based ice cream parlor is coming to Dallas’ West Village in early 2022. Van Leeuwen takes over the former Paciugo Space (RIP Gelato) and is known for its variety of flavors and vegan options. Founded in 2008, the brand uses coconuts, cashews, and oats to create their dairy-free flavors, and a combination of plain milk, cream, eggs, and cane sugar for their regular ice cream. Houston already has three locations of the store, but this will be the first in Dallas.

Anvil Pub closes after 11 years in Deep Ellum

After an 11 year run, this Deep Ellum pub was officially closed after one final pour on Halloween night. The pub announced on Facebook that it would be closed after Sunday night after fighting during the pandemic. Founded by father and sons Pat Bridges and Josh and Jeremy Bridges, the spot had been open on Elm Street since 2010.
