The Day – Connecticut Sun announce 2022 schedule

Mohegan – The Connecticut Sun released their WNBA schedule for the 2022 regular season on Thursday.

The 36-game schedule – two more than last season – includes 18 street games and 18 at the Mohegan Sun Arena. The team is celebrating its 20th anniversary as a franchise and will host many events and theme nights to celebrate the occasion.

The season opens on the street against the New York Liberty at the Barclays Center on Saturday, May 7th at 6pm. The home start is Saturday, May 14th against the Los Angeles Sparks at 7 p.m.

The early start of the season is due to the new WNBA playoff format and the FIBA ​​Women’s Basketball World Championship 2022, which begins on September 22nd.

The Sun will revisit the Liberty on May 17th, followed by a home and a home with the Indiana Fever meeting them at the Mohegan Sun Arena on Friday, May 20th at 7pm, and then on May 22nd at Travel to Indiana at 3 p.m. The Sun returns for a three game home game, hosting the Dallas Wings on May 24th and 26th and the Washington Mystics on May 28th. All three home games begin at 7 p.m. Street against the Las Vegas Aces on May 31st.

A four game road trip continues in June. The sun will hit Las Vegas a second time on Thursday, June 2nd; the Phoenix-Mercury on June 3rd; and the Seattle Storm just two days later on Sunday, June 5th. Connecticut returns for a straight four games with competitions against Indiana on June 8, Chicago Sky on June 10, Atlanta Dream on June 15, and Seattle on June 17, all tip-offs at 7 p.m. The Sun will be the month with an away game in Washington on June 19, a home game against New York on June 22 and two away games in Atlanta and Chicago on June 26 and June 29.

In July, the sun plays nine games. They will meet at their home in Washington on Sunday, July 3rd, and in Dallas on July 5th. In mid-July, the team will be in Indiana on July 13th, followed by a competition in Atlanta on July 15th. The Sun will return to Mohegan Sun Arena for games against Las Vegas and New York on July 17 and 19, respectively. Connecticut then hits for the first time of the season with a two-game road trip against the Minnesota Lynx on July 22nd and 24th. The Sun ends the month with two home games against Seattle and Chicago on July 28th and July 31st.

The month of August will take place the least with six regular season games. At the beginning of the month, Phoenix will be at home in Connecticut on both August 2nd and 4th. The team will then embark on a three-game road trip in Chicago on Aug. 7 and Los Angeles on Aug. 9 and 11, home for their final regular-season game against Minnesota on Aug. 14 at 1:00 p.m.

One important change to highlight is the WNBA’s new playoff format. The postseason structure has been reconfigured to include three rounds of the series game, using a best-of-3-5-5 format. The eight teams with the highest winning percentages across the 36-game schedule will qualify for the playoffs regardless of the conference and will be seeded based on their balance sheet. All eight playoff teams take part in a bracket-style first-round configuration made up of four best-of-three series.

Connecticut Sun during the season celebrations include the Connecticut Sun 20th Anniversary Celebration against the Los Angeles Sparks on May 14; PRIDE on June 10 against the Chicago Sky; the Connecticut Sun’s Change Can’t Wait and the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Title IX Celebration on June 22nd against New York; Camp Day on July 19th against freedom; the Connecticut Sun’s Women of Inspiration on August 4th versus the Phoenix Mercury; and Fan Appreciation Night on August 14 against the Minnesota Lynx.
