ASSEMBLY PLEASANT, SC – The Auburn women’s tennis contingent at the ITA All-American Championships continues its week in South Carolina’s Lowcountry after five games played Thursday, followed by numerous weather delays earlier in the week.

“We learned a lot about ourselves in this tournament,” said Auburn head coach Caroline Lilley. “How we recover from disappointment is always a decision. There is no substitute for courage; a hungry player is always a force to be reckoned with.”

The game started on Monday when Carolyn Ansari in 45th place lost her opening game against Miska Kadleckova 91st from the state of Iowa 6-4, 6-3.

Rain washed out all games on Tuesday and postponed Ansari’s match in the consolation draw to Wednesday. She led Washington’s 124th Sarah-Maude Fortin 6-4, 5-4 when the game was again interrupted by rain. Ansari won a victory by resigning before the game resumed Thursday morning.

In the main draw, Selin Ovunc dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision against Taisiya Pachkaleva from Pepperdine in 44th place. Ovunc moved into the consolation draw and then fell against Furmans 104. Julia Adams, 6-3, 6-4.

The main draw doubles began on Thursday with opening round matches compressed into 8-game pro sets. Ansari and Ovunc lost an 8-4 match against Adams and Dillon von Furman in 26th place, and Georgie Axon and Adeline Flach’s team in 19th place.

In the consolation draw, Axon and Flach scored an 8: 5 victory over Poppe and Conde Monfort from Tulsa and thus reached the consolation quarter-finals, which are scheduled for Friday afternoon. Ansari and Ovunc fell 8-2 behind Missouri’s Murgett and Oliveira team in seventh place in the nation.

The SMU Red and Blue Challenge also starts on Friday. Two Auburn players will be attending this event as Yu Chen and Anastasia Astakhova will travel to Dallas.

Friday action in Dallas begins at 9 a.m. CT with two double rounds; Astakhova and Chen face Deming and Titova from Kansas in the first round. In the first round, Chen meets Jackie Nylander from SMU and Astakhova meets Aleksandra Zlatarova from UTSA.
