Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Dallas Cowboys
The superstar quarterback threw 379 yards and four touchdowns, helping his Tampa Bay Buccaneers a 31-29 win over the Dallas Cowboys as they began defending their Super Bowl title on Thursday. After a thrilling back and forth at Raymond James Stadium, a Ryan Succop field goal crowned the victory for the Bucs, just five seconds behind.
Rob Gronkowksi – Brady’s longtime teammate for the New England Patriots – caught two touchdowns, while Antonio Brown and Chris Godwin caught one each.
Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper had two for the Texas team, and sophomore CeeDee Lamb caught one to keep Dallas in the fight.
A field goal from the Cowboys gave them a point ahead of 1:22 in the game, but Brady showed his experience to enable his team to win the game.
And Succop replied duly and drilled his kick from 36 meters in the last few seconds.
After the game, Brady praised the team effort for a positive start to the new season.
“The margin of error in the NFL is low and after a game or two the game is like that,” Brady told the media afterward.
“Fortunately we found a way to win. I’m really happy that Ryan (Succop) and the field goal team got the right clutch push in the end, that was great to see. Special teams were just great tonight. As a team, We all know we have to get back to work and try to improve. “
Shining stars
In a game of stellar quarterback play, Brady and cowboys colleague Dak Prescott lit up the field with their accuracy and timing after a challenging preseason.
Returning to the field for the first time since a complicated ankle fracture and dislocation last season, Prescott struggled with a sprained shoulder in the off-season.
But the 28-year-old showed no signs of rust on Thursday and probably surpassed his Bucs opponent, throwing 403 yards, throwing touchdowns and one interception – Brady had two interceptions.
“You can be great and fall short, right? That was it tonight,” Prescott said after the game. Visit CNN.com/sport for more news, features and videos
“It was a great effort, but we came up short. We want to be the best and the best is just better than the other guys – to be the best in the league every day.”
With a slew of offensive talent, the Cowboys are hoping to improve on their disappointing 6-10 record from last season.
You will be traveling against the Los Angeles Chargers in the second week of the new season, while the Bucs will be on Sunday the 19th.
