Triple-digit heat will stay in Dallas-Fort Worth this week

Dallas-Fort Worth’s recent luck in escaping the triple-digit heat came to an end this weekend – with the first 100-degree day recorded on Sunday at DFW International Airport.

It may have taken a while to get here, but now the stifling heat is ready to nestle in.

This week’s highs are expected to be at or above 100 by August 6, according to the Weather Channel, with the exception of Wednesday and Thursday when KXAS-TV (NBC5) predicts highs of 98 and 99.

Dallas-Fort Worth has a heat warning in effect until 7:00 p.m. Monday, as the heat index (which takes into account humidity and temperature together) could reach 106.

There is also an ozone action day in effect on Monday – the fourth this month – which can be unhealthy for sensitive groups, according to the National Weather Service. Experts recommend limiting outdoor exertion and carpooling for commuting.

The week will be rain-free, according to the National Weather Service, with the exception of a less than 20% chance for isolated storms in northern Texas on Monday afternoon.

On average, the first 100 degree day of the year comes on July 1st. Now that Dallas-Fort Worth enters the hottest time of the year, residents should exercise heat protection. The weather service recommends limiting strenuous outdoor activities and taking breaks as often as possible.

The average last triple-digit heat day for the region is August 26, according to the National Weather Service.

This is what the NBC5 forecast says:

Monday: 102/80

Tuesday: 101/80

Wednesday: 98/80

Thursday: 99/80

Friday: 100/80
