Swim Across America Inc. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to raising funds and awareness for cancer research, prevention, and treatment. It does this by hosting charity swimming and donating the proceeds to a hospital. Since its inception, SAA $ 75 million to fund cancer research and clinical trials. the Dallas swimming has risen over $ 2.6 million. Each year the event hosts over 450 swimmers, volunteers, spectators and supporters, as well as Olympians, who travel from near and far.
The Dallas Swim takes place on Lake Ray Hubbard. Hundreds of swimmers (including Olympians) and volunteers raise funds to honor or commemorate loved ones who have been directly affected by cancer. Participants of all ages and abilities are invited to choose their open water distance: 1/2 mile, 1 mile, or 2.0 mile. Swimmers need to lift $ 500. College students and students under the age of 18 must raise $ 200. Proceeds from swimming will support the Swim Across America Innovative Clinical Trials Center at Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center. The aim of the ICTC is to drive advances in early cancer detection and new active ingredients for cancer therapy by completing innovative clinical studies. Current phase 1 studies include pancreatic cancer, breast cancer, blood cancer, brain tumors, and prostate cancer.
With more than 3.5 million diagnosed cases each year and an estimated 1 in 5 Americans developing skin cancer during their lifetime, skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States. However, skin cancer is almost always curable if it is recognized and treated early on. That is why early detection is key! Just like an annual check-up with your doctor, an annual skin check-up with your dermatologist is crucial to detect any serious skin problems in the early stages. A person dies of melanoma every 57 minutes, but if detected early, the melanoma has a 98% survival rate. And it’s important to note that melanoma and skin cancer are not an ancient disease. The number of cases in people under 30 has increased dramatically.
“US Dermatology Partners is proud to sponsor Swim Across America for its third year and offer free skin cancer screenings to its attendees and attendees. The screenings performed at previous events have helped countless patients identify skin problems that they found earlier We look forward to building on the success of previous events. ” said CEO Paul Singh
