International grocery giant Costco won’t sit back and watch as startups push into the grocery space with instant delivery. As part of a new pilot with Uber, the Washington-based big box retailer is testing fast delivery in 25 locations across the state of Texas, where Costco members have their groceries delivered “in hours if not minutes” via Uber and Uber Eats be able.
Seven more Costco warehouses will be available to Uber users through the Uber and Uber Eats mobile apps in the coming weeks. The minimum order value is $ 35 and delivery is free for Uber Pass and Eats Pass holders. This is Uber’s first pilot with a grocery wholesaler in the United States.
This news follows Uber’s recent announcement of its first US national grocery partnership with Albertson’s, which more than doubled Uber’s grocery offering and added more than 400 cities, including San Francisco and Phoenix.
Uber said Costco’s commitment to sourcing quality products makes the company an ideal partner for its growing grocery delivery efforts. Since launching in July 2020, Uber has seen steady growth in its food category in the United States. The most important US metropolises now include Miami, Dallas, New York City, San Francisco, Washington DC and Phoenix, with more to follow in 2021.
