Untreatable Fungus Candida Auris Kills Two in Dallas Patient Cluster

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Thursday identified a group of patients infected with an untreatable fungus in two hospitals in the Dallas area. A total of 22 patients became infected with some form of Candida auris between January and April, and two did not respond to any of the three main groups of antifungal drugs. The last two patients died. The fungus poses the greatest threat to immunocompromised people, according to the CDC. A Washington, DC nursing home has reported that the same fungus spread among residents, infecting a total of 101 and killing one. The CDC said the outbreaks are ongoing.
