The Texas Abortion Act targets the legislature’s corporate donors

Opponents of Texas’ strict ban on abortion focus on companies that have donated money to sponsors of the law. The television and digital ads that began last week highlight AT & T’s contributions to Texas Republican lawmakers. There are plans to expand the campaign to Florida, where a similar abortion proposal has been made. Proponents of abortion rights in Texas are facing the strictest abortion law in the country, as well as a largely conservative US Supreme Court and a wave of GOP lawmakers wanting their states’ turn.

The Affordable Care Act requires nonprofit hospitals to educate patients about the financial assistance they provide. But it leaves the details of how that happens to them. Hospitals say they often notify patients of help multiple times and they have eased income limits for help during the COVID-19 pandemic.
