Uptown Dallas’ Central Market development plans approved by city council
Developers have received approval to change plans for one of the most anticipated real estate projects in the Uptown neighborhood of Dallas.
The McKinney Avenue mixed-use development would include a Central Market grocery store on the lower levels.
The planning for the high-rise project has been going on for more than two years.
Developer KDC plans to build the $ 200 million high-rise complex on the site of a long-vacant grocery store.
But after KDC had planned the development with a high-rise office building and a hotel, it went back to the drawing board because of COVID-19 and the slowdown in office leasing.
Instead of office and hotel space, the developer now wants to build 800 apartments, plus a grocery store and other commercial space.
That is almost double the originally planned living space.
The Dallas City Council unanimously approved KDC’s new plans for the Uptown Project on Wednesday.
The updated plans for the nearly 5-acre project show that the tallest residential tower would have more than 20 stories.
Dallas architect Omniplan and San Antonio design firm Lake Flato designed the project, which will occupy most of the block between McKinney and Oak Grove on Lemmon Avenue.
The supermarket on the high profile Uptown site closed and left the property more than five years ago.
