Volunteers Delivered 1,600 lbs of Thanksgiving Food to Homebound Dallas Seniors
Hundreds of volunteer carts line up on Thanksgiving morning to collect hot meals and deliver them to seniors across Dallas County as part of the Meals on Wheels program.
Jennifer Austin of the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) said that this year they are blessed to more than 500 volunteers participate in the tradition. VNA Essen auf Wheels delivers to more than 4,000 seniors every day, but this special meal is something very special. It’s a festive Thanksgiving plate with all the trimmings. The VNA Meals on Wheels kitchen was busy early in the morning as the kitchen crew served 750 pounds of turkey, 800 pounds of cornbread dressing, gravy, green beans, and cranberry sauce.
