BURBANK, Calif. – Batman’s Secret Lair, Harry Potter’s under-the-staircase closet, and Friends’ apartment are key pieces at the heart of the huge expansion of Warner Bros. Studio.
Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood recently reopened after doors closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Participants now have the opportunity to explore the studio’s nearly 100-year history of television and film, highlighting the DC Universe and “Harry Potter”.
A first-hand first look came a few days before the tour opened in late June at the Southern California studio, which now welcomes families with children ages 5+.
Warner Bros. officials said the expansion – which includes a new building – took five years to complete in Burbank. Officials say the studio tour will follow all city, state and federal COVID-19 safety protocols.
“One of the most incredible things about Warner Brothers is the incredible story of epic films that are legendary,” said Patty Jenkins, director of Wonder Woman, who helped reopen the tour.
Here are some of the tour’s key features:
Storytelling ShowcaseSelfie opportunities will be plentiful in the replica, iconic water tower “WB”, as the participants can take an aerial view of the spacious studio property. Memorabilia from the studio’s film, TV animation titles from 1923, hang on the walls. Highlights in this room include photos from classic films such as “Casablanca” and “Little Caesar”.
There is a dedicated wall section from the Oscar-winning film “Million Dollar Baby” and Hilary Swank’s boxing gloves. JR Ewing’s boots and hat from the TV series “Dallas” can also be seen. Several miniature sound stages with the words “PLEASE DO NOT SIT” can be seen throughout the exhibition.
DC universe
Enter the universe behind the scenes of the DC superheroes and villains. One of the most convincing aspects is the secret bath cave, in which the guests the authentic Batmobile from Tim Burton’s original “Batman”, the tumbler from “The Dark Knight” and the Batwing from “Batman v. Superman ”.
You can see costumes from Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Flash. Other outstanding items are Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and Jared Leto’s Joker costumes from “Suicide Squad”. In addition to Christopher Reeves “Superman” costume, the exhibition shows Michael Keaton’s suit from the 1989 film “Batman” and Lynda Carter’s “Wonder Woman” costume from the classic television series of the 1970s.
In an interactive experience, visitors can touch the glowing lasso by Hestia from “Wonder Woman 1984”.
The director of the recent Wonder Woman films, Patty Jenkins, said she enjoyed seeing the costumes from her films along with the rest of the DC characters on display.
“Harry Potter” and “Fantastic Beasts”
Create a photo opportunity in Harry Potter’s closet under the stairs at Privet Drive 4 and learn about the art of potions on the replica sets of “Harry Potter” and “Fantastic Beasts”.
Guests can sit under the Sorting Hat that defines their own Hogwarts home. And classes are held at Newt Scamander’s Shed of Magical Creatures to learn more about the unique creatures.
‘Friends’ boutique
Stage 48: Script to Screen houses the “Friends” boutique, which is accompanied by the expanded Central Perk Café. The area features replica sets inspired by the show, including Joey’s and Chandler’s Apartment, Monica’s Apartment, and Central Perk. Some of the costumes worn by the performers and other props for the show are from the 25th anniversary in 2019. Monica’s famous door frame and a Friends-inspired spirit jersey, coffee mugs, and souvenirs and collectibles are included.
The Central Perk offers a New York-inspired menu with a special mix of Central Perk coffee, pizza slices, corned beef melts and cold sandwiches.
Celebrate the award season
The tour concludes with an exhibition of costumes and props, including the late Chadwick Boseman’s jersey as Jackie Robinson in 42 and the miniature airship from Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner. The trombone that Robert Preston played in “The Music Man” can also be seen.
Guests have the opportunity to hold an authentic Oscar trophy. (Be sure to grab it with both hands. It’s hard.)
