Was there a distinctive Dallas home design in the 1970s? This 3-bedroom house gives that impression

Dallas is known for many things: the Cowboys, for example, our award-winning skyline and the TV show that bears the city’s name, to name a few. The city is also home to many iconic home designs and its own recognizable design style.

Well, this 1972 house is a typical example of Dallas design. John Astin Perkins designed this home at 10852 Crooked Creek Court, near Royal Lane and Inwood Road, according to documents provided by the agent.

Erin Young Garrett of Allie Beth Allman & Associates said the house was full of original details and deliberate design elements.

“Every detail is a thoughtful detail,” she said, jotting down items like the trellis design along the interior walls in a room and the way the house is designed to allow natural light in without compromising privacy.

Historical records of Perkins, who was both an architect and an interior designer, refer to him as the “decorator of choice” in Dallas.

Various designers and architects have expanded this home and underwent a number of interior redesigns. The most recent update was the addition of the “Orangery”. There is a living area off the primary suite that was previously a porch.

An example of a real Dallas design element is the custom wallpaper in the foyer – a gray-tinted design by de Gournay (a favorite textile in many Dallas homes, like this decorator show home and this current Dallas listing).

The formal living room of the house is to the right of the front door and has plenty of natural light, a fireplace, and a molding. The formal living room is across the foyer and has easy access to a butler pantry, wet bar, and half a bathroom.

The home has three bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a half bathroom on 6,818 square feet. The master suite and another bedroom are on the first level and the third and final bedroom is on the second level of the house.

The primary suite is not your typical bedroom and bathroom decor. This has two full bathrooms, a coffee bar, a utility room and a built-in closet. There is also a private study accessible from the bathroom and the aforementioned “orangery,” a room designed as a living room with lots of large windows overlooking the property and trellis designs on the walls and ceiling. There is also an additional study or library on the other side of the bedroom suite.

The main living room of the house is two stories high with a wall of windows on one side overlooking the pool. At one end, an ornate staircase leads to the second level where the third bedroom and playroom are located.

The kitchen has two large islands and custom-made cabinets for storage. An open cave adjoins the kitchen and the room has a fireplace.

The home is on 0.75 acres and has a pool and deck for entertainment. Garrett said the house is on an incline on the property to ensure privacy and exclusivity prevail and no one can look into the house or the back yard.

The house is on the market for $ 5,000,000. Lillie Young and Erin Young Garrett of Allie Beth Allman & Associates are marketing the property.
