Beckley 1115
Oak Cliff Wine Bar by Sharon Van Meter, most of which was previously in the 3015 function room at Trinity Groves, has just opened in Victor Hugo’s old space at 1115 N. Beckley Ave. You can get wine by the glass, bottle or box, plus divided small plates like Spanish meatballs with creamy polenta and crusty bread; Tomato sponge cake with grilled mini cheese; caramelized pumpkin toast with whipped ricotta; and mashed fried potatoes with saffron goat cheese.
Braindead Brewing
Deep Ellum bar-restaurant-brewery pioneered craft beer when it opened in 2015 – before living in a neighborhood that has changed dramatically. Somehow they have tormented themselves through the pandemic and are back: They serve their own home-brewed beers on a tap with more than two dozen brews and a reduced menu with the biggest hits like “Thick & Morty”. an Akaushi burger with American cheese, bacon, steak sauce, sautéed onions and french fries. Having a spacious deck with a view of the action on Main Street definitely doesn’t hurt.

Mom-and-pop at The Hill, the center of the northeast corner of US-75 and Walnut Hill Lane, is known for great coffee, be it espresso or creative drinks like the 1885, which is a double espresso and sugar cane Dr. combined pepper on ice. But owners Chad & Nellie Montgomery – who founded Big Texas Beer Fest, happily returning November 12-13 this year – are just as adept at beer. Unmistakable Vines Wine Lounge
The black-owned wine lounge on the southern edge of downtown in the old Piggly Wiggly building near the Lorenzo Hotel quietly opened this summer and is exactly the kind of social destination co-founder Verlin Taylor envisioned. You can get wine by the glass or bottle, as well as wine flights and wine slushies in flavors like peach. They have weekly specials like Wednesday evenings where you get a free flatbread when you buy a bottle. The space is heavily programmed, with jazz musicians, DJs, and a new Sunday brunch debuting on October 24th.

Deep Ellum is getting a wine bar thanks to the tendency of this eclectic and funky chain from Phoenix to venture into historic neighborhoods. It’s a cool indoor-outdoor venue with a choice of 30 wines by the glass and 40 wines by the bottle. The food is simple but good, with a wide variety of boards and bruschetta to choose from, along with salads and panini, and a category called “Snacky Things” which includes crispy cauliflower with sultanas-raisins, capers and romesco. You switch to a seasonal wine selection and a glass is only $ 5 until 5pm. The atmosphere is cool, effortless, but warm and welcoming.
