Where to drink in Dallas right now: 5 new bars with must-try cocktails

With all the recent openings and drinks menu, there is currently no shortage of candidates for the November issue of Where to Drink in Dallas, CultureMap’s monthly function that suggests where to drink in Dallas. At the moment.

There are two brand new locations this month, a third that is almost brand new and one location that has a tempting new cocktail menu for the holidays.

How to drink in November:

AC Hotel Dallas by The Galleria

The Marriott Hotel by the Galleria opened about three years ago and has an on-site restaurant-bar called the AC Lounge, which serves Spanish tapas, wine by the glass, and a full bar with cocktails. They just launched a seasonal drinks menu that includes fall ingredients like allspice, pumpkin, pecan, orange and star anise. Cocktails include the Spiced Pear Gin Fizz with Anjou Pear, Allspice, Dripping Springs Gin with Star Anise, Lemon Juice, Fever Tree Club Soda and Egg White; and the Pumpkin Bourbon Smash with Makers Mark Bourbon, seasoned pumpkin, lime juice, Demerara syrup and pecan bitters from our own production. Its proximity to the Galleria makes it a perfect apres-shopping drop-in (or earlier, if that’s how you roll).

The newly opened downtown venue is a coffee shop and cocktail bar in one of coffee guru Mike Mettendorf, and like its siblings La Reunion and State Street Coffee, it takes what it does very seriously: carefully selected coffee beans and impeccable coffee beverages to a sophisticated approach to cocktails, including coffee-based cocktails like the espresso martini with vodka, kahlúa, espresso and vanilla; and the irresistible Carajillo with Pierre Ferrand Ambré Cognac, Licor 43 and Espresso. No detail is overlooked and there is a family tree team to deliver the best. Wine drinkers are advised to stop by on Wednesdays when they cut wine bottles in half between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

The last stand of the people

There was a lot of comings and goings at Mockingbird Station, but this groundbreaking craft cocktail venue has shown superpowered endurance, bringing in new menus almost every week, being extra creative and just bringing your A-game with you every day. All menu cocktails are $ 11, which is a steal by current craft cocktail standards, and they run happy hour with a selection of $ 8 cocktails daily until 7pm. Right now they are one of three bars in town (along with La Reunion in Oak Cliff and Shoal’s in Deep Ellum) that offer a special “Gold Fashioned” with Aberfeldy single malt Scotch whiskey, a fruity Highland-style whiskey its water source, the Pitilie Burn, a river known for its gold deposits, is called “the Golden Dram”. The drink combines Aberfeldy 12 year old, honey syrup, Angostura bitter and orange bitter.

The Stix ice house

A full-service restaurant and bar spanning 14 acres in McKinney offers a menu of delicious home-style cooking: catfish n chips, nachos, chicken, soups and salads. Guests can wash down their delicious home-style cooking with special cocktails such as the AppleMoon Magic Cocktail (moonlight mixed with cider) or one of 24 beers on tap. In addition to great food and drink, The Stix has a nine-hole disc golf course, wiffle ball, corn hole, table tennis, swings, tree house, and a large function room perfect for group outings and large family gatherings.

Sugar factory

The bustling restaurant candy store opens with fanfare this weekend, with over the top food and drink, including their dry ice smoking cocktails served in crazy big mugs. The Lollipop Passion is garnished with lollipops and candy chains, while the Watermelon Patch Pitbulls Voli 305 contains vodka and sour watermelon gums. Many of their cocktails have celebrity ties: The Rock’s Soul Man with his Teremana Tequila; 50 Cent Candy Shop with Branson Cognac; the Mamitas Hurricane with Mario Lopez ‘Casa Mexico Silver Tequila and Brody Jenner’s Mamitas Seltzer; Bruno Mars’ Watermelon Piña Colada and Mai Tai with SelvaRey Rum; Nick Cannon’s Big Clouds Goblet; Snoop Doggs Tropical Fruit Punch with his Indoggo Gin; and Nick Jonas and John Varvatos’ Strawberry Cadillac Reposado Margarita with Villa One Tequila.
