While you weren’t looking, secluded Dallas steakhouse Tango Room opened in the Design District

A new restaurant called Tango Room opened in the Dallas Design District on September 17, 2021, serving steak, pasta, and seafood alongside a dazzling bar menu of lobster corn dogs and deviled eggs with truffles.

After waiting for more than a year, it appeared quietly.

Many of the dishes in the Tango Room restaurant in Dallas are optionally available with fancy additions such as lobster, foie gras and caviar. Here are the devilish eggs that have a slice of black truffle on them.

We named it one of the most exciting restaurants to open in 2020 but that didn’t happen.

It was scheduled to open in April 2020 in place of FT33, Chef Matt McCallister’s innovative restaurant that closed in 2018. Hi Line Drive restaurant is now in new hands: Tango Room comes from Headington Companies, the group that owns the Joule Hotel. Midnight Rambler cocktail bar, bakery and grab-and-go shop Commissary and others, along with southern restaurant The Porch on Henderson Avenue in Dallas.

Tango Room is the chicest restaurant in Headington’s portfolio after the Mirador restaurant in downtown Dallas closed. Tango Room has its own sexy approach to being a modern steakhouse.

“We took what we loved about the typical steakhouse and then gave it our own fingerprints: sublime, unexpected, thoughtful,” says Chef Kylil Henson. He previously worked at Stephan Pyles Flora Street Cafe and Oak in Dallas and DBGB by Daniel Boulud in Washington, DC

The upscale and exclusive ambience of the Tango Room reflects a trend of ultra-luxury that we have seen in other new high-end restaurants in Dallas, such as the 17-course, 12-seat Shoyo Japanese restaurant; the $ 2,200 steakhouse Nusr-Et; and 49th floor Italian the monarch. Prices can skyrocket at any of these spots.

Dallas chef Jimmy Park will open a sushi restaurant on Greenville Avenue in Dallas in 2021.

Tango Room is small – only 12 cabins and a bar – and guests can order a very expensive dinner if they so choose. Caviar costs $ 250 and steaks can cost up to $ 105 per person. Add seared foie gras for $ 25 or lobster for $ 28. Large-format plates that will feed multiple people include a $ 195 porterhouse steak served with cauliflower gratin and horseradish cream.

Bar snacks are less ostentatious and show a more playful side of the restaurant. Lobster corn dogs are $ 15 and duck wings are $ 17.

We should all be considering the Tango Burger, which is different from many other bougie burgers in town – and there are many. This is a dry-aged beef patty with yuzu aioli, IPA pickles, black truffle, and a Swiss cheese called raclette. It costs $ 20.

Other menu items include steak tartare, bacon steak, celery root soup, fried salmon and two types of pasta: Tango Bolognese, a papardelle dish with whipped burrata and foie gras; and Frutti di Mare, a spaghetti dish with confit tomatoes.

In the 17 months since the Tango Room opened, the Headington team has reinvented the dining room. “You won’t recognize it,” says Michael Siegel, Food and Beverage Director at Headington Companies.

The team has also “collected a lot, a lot of wine,” he says. The wine list was created by Simon Roberts, a co-owner of the restaurant and owner of Graileys Fine Wines.

The group hopes Tango Room feels like a secluded restaurant that was worth the wait.

“It feels partly a private club, partly a restaurant,” says Siegel. “When people come, they look around and say, ‘There’s no such thing in Dallas.'”
