DHA’s Education Foundation Announces Scholarships for 30 North Texas Students

DALLAS – (BUSINESS WIRE) – Opportunity Rising, the Education Foundation for DHA, Housing Solutions for North Texas, awarded college scholarships to 30 North Texas students, and four of the foundation’s fellows received scholarships from the Texas Chapter of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (TXNAHRO). The scholarships were announced at the annual Opportunity Rising Scholarship event, which took place virtually on August 3, 2021.

That year, the Foundation made grants ranging from $ 1,000 to $ 4,000 and established the Bill and Lynn Croft Scholarships in recognition of the generous support of Mr. Scott Fawcett in honor of his mother and stepfather. Five NAHRO fellowships have been awarded to DHA fellows, including the Texas NAHRO Jim Hargrove Fellowship and the Southwest NAHRO Philip Miller Fellowship to Trayvion Newton.

The Opportunity Rising Foundation believes that education is key to bringing DHA residents and their families into self-employment. Through generous donations, the foundation provides scholarships, mentoring and learning opportunities to help our scholarship holders achieve their educational and professional goals.

Foundation scholars will be Berea College, Boston University, Collin College, Dallas College, Eastern New Mexico University, Huston-Tillotson University, McMurry University, Lincoln Tech, Ottawa University, Prairie View A&M University, Southern Methodist University, Southern University and A&M College, Texas Lutheran University, Texas Southern University, University of Hartford, University of North Texas at Denton, University of Texas at Arlington and Dallas, and Wichita State University.

“The Opportunity Rising Foundation was created to help our students overcome adversity in order to achieve their educational and professional goals,” said Troy Broussard, President and CEO of DHA. “Our foundation scholars have achieved their training goals and have become lawyers, epidemiologists, entrepreneurs, pharmacists, clinical audiologists, medical assistants, class case managers, nurses and educators. When we help our students spark their passions and pursue lifelong learning, communities emerge. ”
