Fort Worth Cafe Celebrates Everybody Eats Week – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth
National Everybody Eats Week returns this year for its third annual campaign. It goes through Saturday and the goal is to bring people around one table and channel the power of the community to fight hunger.
“We want you to make sure someone eats. And they can dine at a community cafe or donate online and make sure someone can eat this week, ”said Julie Williams, chairman of the board of One World Everybody Eats, the nonprofit behind the campaign.
“We want them to move forward. You can volunteer online at a community cafe or accept the promise,” she said. “Go to our website and, if you do, make a commitment to learn more about food insecurity in your community. And we will provide additional resources to help them understand the food insecurities that are specific to their community and the steps they can take to begin building a community cafe. “
Williams and his husband Jeff run Taste Community Restaurant in Fort Worth, a community cafe that you pay for what you can. There are only about 50 community cafes on the national network, and theirs is the only member cafe in Texas.
“This is especially important during this COVID-19 pandemic. Every community needs a community café. Every community needs this community cafe to thrive because it is a good solution for a sustainable way to feed our community and when people are in need they have an instant place to go, “she said.
