Police: Station shooting, Lyft driver’s death may be linked | Business
PLANO, Texas (AP) – Authorities on Sunday tried to determine if there was a link between two incidents in different suburbs of Dallas that injured a man who opened fire in one police station and another in which one man killed was a Lyft driver.
Plano police said the man who had behaved erratically entered the lobby of the department’s headquarters at around 12:15 p.m. on Sunday.
The second time the man stepped into the lobby, he pointed a pistol, raised it, and fired in the direction of a civil servant who was helping a resident.
The employee and the visitor looked for shelter in a nearby room.
Two officers responded on the spot and shot and injured the man, who was later taken to a hospital. His condition was initially unknown. The man’s name was not immediately released by the authorities.
No other people were injured in the incident, the police said.
“Thanks to the quick and effective action of our policemen in Plano, a terrible tragedy was avoided,” said Plano Mayor John Muns.
Police in the nearby Garland suburb said the stolen vehicle of a Lyft driver who had been fatally shot on Sunday had been found in front of the police station.
