Red River Showdown: DFW residents prepare for Texas-OU game crowd
An estimated 100,000 people are expected during the Texas OU weekend for the State Fair of Texas and Cotton Bowl.
DALLAS – Neighbors across South Dallas are preparing for the big Texas OU soccer weekend.
“It’s going to get out of hand. There are people everywhere, ”said William Griffith as he led the cars into his family-run parking lot on Pennsylvania Avenue.
Texas OU weekend is expected to draw a huge crowd to the Cotton Bowl and the State Fair of Texas.
“Texas OU is likely one of those big bucket-making days,” Griffith said.
Many residents of South Dallas-Fair Park are looking forward to this football weekend during the fair. However, busy crowds can be inconvenient. Some houses in the area have already put up “no parking” signs.
In the nearby Mill City neighborhood, Shaquana Hair Designs is preparing for the big weekend. They said the Texas OU game brings more exposure to local businesses and additional police presence.
“You get more recognition because a lot of people from the area now go to the fair. And then the protection. The police are everywhere, ”said salon owner Shaquana Richardson.
Neighbors said they did not know how or if the pandemic could affect the crowd at Fair Park this weekend.
James Johns said he wasn’t worried. He will get up bright and early on Saturday morning and greet the porters who park in the parking lot in front of his house.
“This is one of the biggest games to ever come through here, Texas-Oklahoma,” said Johns.
He’s one of those who say the community is looking forward to economic recovery this weekend.
